Apache Junction is about 36 to 37 miles east of Phoenix, roughly 47 minutes on US 60, and it is the only city on this list outside Maricopa County.

Apache Junction sits in Pinal County under the Superstition Mountains and has a very large RV population, most of it in age restricted winter resorts. Two places stand out for anyone travelling with children.
Lost Dutchman State Park: Directly beneath the Superstition Mountains on the northeastern edge of town. 135 pitches plus three group areas, 68 of them with water and 50, 30 and 20 amp electric, and the park states there are no size restrictions on RVs, which is unusual and useful. Stays are capped at 14 nights in any 30 days, two vehicles per site, and generator hours are 8am to 10am and 5pm to 7pm. Entry is 10 to 20 dollars per vehicle. Book on 1 877 MY PARKS.
Campground USA RV Resort: 2851 South Tomahawk Road, and the one commercial park in town confirmed to describe itself as an all ages RV park in its own words. It lists 129 full hookup pitches billed as big rig friendly, though no maximum length figure is published. Telephone 480 877 8880.
Usery Mountain Regional Park: 3939 North Usery Pass Road in northeast Mesa, west of Apache Junction and back inside Maricopa County. 73 pitches with water and electric and a published limit of RVs up to 45 feet, with the amperage not published. The county fire ban runs from 1 May to 30 September. Telephone 602 506 2930.
Confirm current availability, amperage and pitch length directly with each park before you travel.

Everything here points at one mountain range. Before planning any drive northeast, note that State Route 88, the Apache Trail, is posted through the Fish Creek Vista section as a primitive road with no trailers and four wheel drive or side by sides only, so a motorhome or a towed unit must not go that way.

This is the destination where fleet size matters least, because Lost Dutchman State Park states that it applies no size restrictions on RVs. That leaves the choice down to beds and comfort. The fleet covers Class C and Super C motorhomes, a Class A motorhome and a large bunkhouse travel trailer, sleeping from five up to ten, priced between 145 and 440 dollars a night. Note that only 68 of the park's 135 pitches carry water and electric, so a hookup site is worth booking well ahead in the winter season. Availability depends on the individual RV and your travel dates, so start from the current listings. View available RVs or Contact the AZ RV Rentals team.
