Tempe is one of the shortest runs on this list, roughly 10 to 13 miles southeast of Phoenix and about 17 minutes on Loop 202, but it has no campground of its own.

Tempe is a tightly built college city with no county or state park inside its limits, and that is why the shortlist is short. The nearest choices ring the city to the east and north.
Usery Mountain Regional Park: 3939 North Usery Pass Road in northeast Mesa, the nearest county campground with water and electric hookups. 73 pitches with water and electric, RVs up to 45 feet, and gates 5am to 9pm from May to October and 6am to 8pm from November to April. The county fire ban runs 1 May to 30 September. Telephone 602 506 2930.
Desert's Edge RV Village: 2398 West Williams Drive in north Phoenix. The operator's own about page says it has lots for motorhomes and trailers of all sizes and does not describe itself as an age restricted community, which makes it one of the few commercial parks in the metro open to a family group. Neither amperage nor maximum length is published, so telephone 623 587 0940.
Covered Wagon RV Park: 6540 North Black Canyon Highway in central Phoenix, just off Interstate 17. The operator states in its own words that this is an all ages RV community, and full hookups are available. Neither the amperage nor a maximum length figure is published. Telephone 602 558 2143.
Confirm current availability, amperage and pitch length directly with each park before you travel.

Tempe is built around a university and a reservoir, and most of what is worth a stop is within walking distance of one or the other. Papago Park straddles the Tempe and Phoenix line, so part of what people call a Tempe visit is technically over the border.

Because there is nowhere in Tempe to park an RV overnight, the practical shape of a Tempe trip is a pitch elsewhere and a short drive in. That makes size less of a constraint than usual and puts the emphasis on what the unit is like to live in. The fleet covers Class C and Super C motorhomes, a Class A motorhome and a large bunkhouse travel trailer, sleeping between five and ten depending on the unit. If you want the cheapest way in and you have something to tow with, the trailer starts at 145 dollars a night. Ask us which units are free on your dates and we will send current rates.
